This Columbus Day Weekend a brand new expo promoting alternative energy, health, and local entrepreneurs is coming to Saratoga.

The first Olde Saratoga Expo is teaming up with Eco-Local Magazine to create the event, which includes 50 vendors presenting everything from gardening and local food to chiropractics, according to Eco-Local Magazine Publisher David Delozier.

One vendor who also helped sponsor the event, David Elliot, will be promoting his seven year old local solar power installation business, Enlighten Power Solutions. He says he’s eager to help educate local businesses about the alternative energy industry. “Local entrepreneurs are fighting the good fight and keeping things greener. It makes a community stronger and keeps capital local.”

Delozier explains that this expo is quite different from other shows. “Brad Crannel [of Olde Saratoga Expo] has been to many home shows, standard fare where you meet and greet your contractors. He thought there should be more dynamism. He also thought there should be a more alternative energy aspect.”

According to the organizers, the expo will include lots of fun stuff as well. In celebration of Columbus Day, they’re hosting a cardboard and duct-tape regatta boat race. “We’ll have arts & crafts, and a kids tent, so it’s interactive. It’s not just for contractors, it’s also for families.”

Casey Dougall, the Executive Director of the event, says “we want this to be more than just a home show. We have music in the background. We wanted things for people to do. I’m hoping for a nice turnout, and nice weather.”

The expo will be happening from 10am-6pm Saturday and Sunday, October 6 and 7. It is located in Lee’s Park off of Rte. 9P by Saratoga Lake.
